Surrounded by Comics!
I'd love to hear that ideas involving comic books were part of the 2015 Summit! Here are some suggestions:
1. A panel gathering comic book artists who do use this art form to advocacy and also offer a local perspective to readers everywhere thanks to the internet. Kanika Mishra, creator of Karnika Kahen, is an example of how comics can empower groups - she gave voice to girls in India and just got a prize for her courage (disclosure - I did write a post about it). It would be perfect to involve artists from the host country, so that all the GV Community and Summit participants could have a look at how those artists see the world. Cartoon Movement artists could also join this panel, they seem to be doing a good work online.
2. The tent - yeah, a tent, with comics both local and global. You can sit and talk to artists, share stories, buy some books to take home. Maybe this could open room for a local bookshop to organize? Once a friend of my father brought me some comics from Japan. I think I was 10 and I coudn't read Japanese, but it didn't hurt my enthusiasm. It was amazing!
3. The Comics Trade Extravaganza - after Nairobi I learned that more people are interested in comics in this Community. Why not exchange editions from where you come from with your friends or with someone you have just met? I know I would love to do that!
